With the dangerous heat forecast for the next few days, Mayor Garrett Jones and Caldwell OEM remind residents to be cautious and prepare for the heatwave by taking some precautions.

This heat is dangerous and can affect everyone but especially the elderly or those with medical conditions.

When at all possible, stay indoors, in air conditioning and limit any necessary outside activities to evening hours.

Check on neighbors especially the elderly or those in need to make sure they are OK.

Be prepared for possible power outages due to storms or grid issues.

Use appliances at night and limit daytime use of electricity during peak hours.

PSE+G our electric supplier has been preparing for this event and have crews ready to respond to customer needs whenever and wherever needed.

Call (800) 436-7734 (PSEG) or text out to 47734 to report outages. Customers can get real-time updates by logging on to PSE&G/outage center. Call 911 for any wires down or other emergencies.

Caldwell’s cooling center at 14 Park is available on an emergency basis for residents who need a place to cool off and rest during daytime hours. Call Caldwell PD if needed (973) 226-2600.

HEAT related illness kills thousands of people each year. Drink water often even if you are not thirsty and seek medical help if experiencing heat related symptoms
