Caldwell Borough School Crossing Guard Hiring: A School Crossing Guard is a part-time employee of the Borough of Caldwell. As a crossing guard, you are a vital link to the safety of school children on a daily basis. Crossing guards need to be available for a minimum one hour in the morning, one hour in the afternoon and two hours mid-day with the current school schedule.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

-High School graduate

-United States citizen

-At least eighteen years of age

-Valid driver's license

-Successful candidates must pass an oral interview, background investigation and a medical physical.

 

The Caldwell Police Department provides uniforms, equipment and training.  

HOUR RATE SCHEDULE: Year 1: $21 per hour Year 2: $22 per hour Year 3: $23 per hour Year 4: $24 per hour Years 5 or more: $25 per hour Substitute guards will make $25 per hour, regardless of years of service.  

 

In the event guards are needed for additional time above their normal schedule, they will be paid at their normal hourly rate set forth above. Guards shall be paid for all hours worked at the established hourly rate and are expected to work on all school days. This can be modified based on declarations of emergency that affect in-person school operations.   As per New Jersey State law, guards will earn sick leave as follows: for every 30 hours worked, they will accrue one (1) hour of sick time with a maximum of forty (40) hours in total.
