Information Regarding Soliciting in the Borough

A number of residents have expressed concerns about solicitors in their neighborhoods.  All solicitors are required to have a permit from the Borough. Civic or charitable organizations are not required to purchase a permit, however, they are required to carry identification.   The permit will show the name and address of the permittee, the kinds of goods to be sold or services to be performed, the issue and expiration dates of the permit as well as a list of the names of each and every one of the proposed canvassers or solicitors. Each canvasser or solicitor must carry a copy of the permit and produce it upon request. They also must carry identification to prove they are listed on the permit. It's important to know that canvassing and soliciting subject to a permit is only permitted between the hours of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday.  Permit-exempt canvassing or soliciting may be conducted between the hours of 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM Monday through Saturday.   For details of the Borough Code regarding solicitors, please follow this link and go to Peddling and Soliciting: Chapter 167.  https://www.ecode360.com/CA1417
